ME-Boot is a fundamentally different approach to board level RTOS Board Support Packages (BSPs) which include boot code, pre-OS loading activities (e.g., secure boot), and OS component loading and launch. ME-Boot was developed to lower BSP cost, time, and development risks. Further, the ME-Boot approach offers a more adaptable approach for changing BSP requirements which often occurs in new program developments. Additionally, the ME-Boot approach is aligned with a common compute platform model, where a supplier may use a standardized hardware design for diverse products, but system adjustments are needed between different use cases.
