DDC-I and ALT Software integrate support for the AMD/ATI Radeon e4690 GPU with DDC-I’s Deos operating system using ALT’s DO-178B OpenGL libraries

DDC-I and ALT Software today announced a collaboration to integrate support for AMD’s high-performance ATI Radeon e4690 graphics processing unit (GPU) on DDC-I’s safety-critical Deos real-time operating system (RTOS). The integration, which features ALT’s industry-leading DO-178B certifiable embedded OpenGL graphics drivers, will allow Deos customers to utilize the ATI e4690 GPU in a broad range of safety-critical aerospace and defense applications requiring high-performance display capabilities.

The ATI Radeon e4690, AMD’s latest high-performance embedded computing GPU (component available for 20+ years through ALT Software), delivers best-in-class performance per watt of power consumption and provides three times the performance of previous generation AMD’s embedded GPUs, which are currently used extensively in the avionics market. The e4690 also offers a host of features and functionality that anticipate the design needs of avionics system manufacturers, including support for 3D synthetic vision applications and the ability to be configured for a range of power and performance requirements.

Deos is a full-featured, DO-178B Level A certifiable embedded RTOS that has been used in hundreds of safety critical avionics applications on commercial and military aircraft. The time and space partitioned RTOS features deterministic real-time response and employs patented “slack scheduling” to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other certifiable safety-critical COTS RTOS. Deos is the only certifiable time and space partitioned COTS RTOS built from the ground up for safety-critical applications. It also provides the easiest, lowest cost path of any COTS RTOS to DO-178B Level A certification, the highest level of safety criticality.

Avionics manufacturers prefer to design embedded computing systems by carefully selecting the individual hardware and software components best suited for an aircraft’s safety critical applications.
