Phoenix, AZ. January 12, 2016. DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced the availability of its Deos real-time operating system for Extreme Engineering Solutions’ Freescale-based XPedite single-board computer. Together, Deos and XPedite provide an ideal platform for targeting safety-critical, DO-178C-certifiable avionics applications with the most demanding size, power and performance constraints.
“XPedite SBCs running Deos provide an out-of-the-box solution for Freescale avionics developers who require a flexible, compact, low-power, high-performance platform that can be readily certified to the most demanding DO-178C safety-critical requirements,” said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing and product management at DDC-I.
“The combination of proven, rugged, military avionics hardware from X-ES and the DO-178-certified, deterministic, Deos RTOS from DDC-I provides immediate solutions for customers requiring in-house DO-160 environmental testing capabilities,” added Aaron Lindner, director of engineering at Extreme Engineering Solutions. “X-ES is also analyzing additional requirements in order to provide DO-254 artifacts for its products.”
The XPedite5970 is a 3U OpenVPX™ REDI single board computer based on the Freescale QorIQ T2080 processor, which features eight virtual (four dual-threaded) e6500 cores running at up to 1.8 GHz, and a 128-bit AltiVec SIMD engine for each core. The XPedite5970 supports up to 8 GB of DDR3-1600 SDRAM and provides a plethora of I/O options to the backplane, including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gen3 PCIe, and Gen2 SRIO. The XPedite5970 also offers superior growth and expansion capabilities by including an XMC or PMC site with full 10 mm I/O envelope support while maintaining a 0.8 inch VPX slot pitch. This gives system integrators access to a wide variety of COTS options for additional I/O, storage, or processing while minimizing total system size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C).
Deos is a safety-critical embedded RTOS that has been certified to DO-178 DAL A since 1998. Featuring deterministic real-time response, the time and space partitioned RTOS employs patented ‘slack scheduling’ and cache partitioning to deliver faster worst-case response and higher CPU utilization than any other certifiable safety-critical COTS RTOS. Deos was built from the ground up for safety-critical applications, and is the only certifiable time and space partitioned COTS RTOS that has been created using RTCA DO-178, Level A processes from the very first day of its product development. Deos provides the easiest, lowest cost path of any COTS RTOS to DO-178 Level A certification, the highest level of safety criticality.
Development support for Deos includes DDC-I’s Eclipse-based, mixed-language OpenArbor™ IDE, which features C and C++ optimizing compilers, a color-coded source editor, project management support, automated build utilities, and symbolic debugger. Also included is a virtual target hardware development tool, QEMU (Quick EMUlator), which allows developers to develop, debug, and test their code on their development host PC in advance of actual target hardware availability.
