DDC-I Joins Arm Functional Safety Partnership Program

Ported to Arm since 2013, Deos offers widest breadth of Arm based processor support for certifiable safety critical avionics

Phoenix, AZ – October 29, 2020 – DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced that it has joined the Arm Functional Safety Partnership Program. The program will enable DDC-I to be more integrated within the Arm ecosystem, receive early access to roadmaps, and play an active role in joint marketing and other promotions within the ecosystem.

DDC-I’s Deos runs on a multitude of Arm based processors including the Altera/Intel Cyclone, NXP Layerscape, i.MX and S32 automotive families, and the Xilinx Zynx 7000 and Ultrascale families. With an emphasis on supporting multicore applications, Deos scales well in the gamut of avionics applications, from highly deterministic deeply embedded FADECs (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) to complex high throughput displays and mission computers. Deos’s SafeMC technology uniquely resolves the CAST-32A multicore objectives, enabling it to deliver unmatched performance and determinism for safety-critical applications running on Arm multicore processors.

Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program showcases a range of functional safety partners specializing in the areas of software and tools, design services and training services. With an ecosystem numbering thousands of partners, Arm understands it can sometimes be difficult for customers to find the right partners with the right experience and expertise in the field of functional safety. Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program makes the process easier and quicker, providing its customers with the right support and ultimately shortening time to market for their functional safety product.

“DDC-I’s safety-critical Deos RTOS has been ported to multiple Arm processor cores and processors leveraging Arm IP since its first design win in 2013 on the NXP i.MX6,” said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing and product management at DDC-I. “We are seeing the majority of new designs in the commercial and military aero markets transitioning to Arm based designs due to their superior performance per watt capability.”

DDC-I’s Deos is a field proven, safety-critical, avionics RTOS that is used to host a multitude of flight critical functions, such as air data computers, air data inertial reference units, cockpit video, displays and flight instrumentation, flight management systems, engine management, and many more.  Built from the ground up for safety-critical applications, Deos is the only certifiable time- and space-partitioned COTS RTOS that has been created using RTCA DO-178, Level A processes from the very first day of its product development. Deos’ unique modular design and verification evidence provides the easiest, lowest cost path to DO-178C DAL A certification, the highest level of safety criticality.

SafeMC™ technology extends Deos’ advanced capabilities to multiple cores, enabling developers of safety-critical systems to achieve best in class multicore performance without compromising safety-critical task response and guaranteed execution time. SafeMC™ employs a bound multiprocessing (BMP) extension of the symmetric multiprocessing architecture (SMP), safe scheduling and cache partitioning to minimize cross-core contention and interference patterns that affect the performance, safety criticality and certifiability of multicore systems. These features enable avionics systems developers to address issues that could impact the safety, performance and integrity of a software airborne system executing on Multi-Core Processors (MCP), as specified by the Certification Authorities Software Team (CAST) in its Position Paper CAST-32A for Multi-core Processors.
